Anne Heche has died. The actress was involved in a tragic car crash in which she drove her car into a two-storey house. Both the house and her car were engulfed in flames, leaving Heche trapped in the car.
She was transported to a hospital, but the accident left her in a coma with a severe anoxic brain injury. Her family said just last week she wasn’t expected to survive and they have turned her life support off over the weekend.
Heche’s family described the actress as someone who felt strongly about organ donation, so her life support was turned off only after a suitable donor was found. It’s currently not known which or how many of her organs have been donated, but the BBC reports that surgeons were standing by to perform the donation.
On Sunday, the Los Angeles Police Department concluded that they would no longer investigate the crash itself.
“As of today, there will be no further investigative efforts made in this case,” they said in a statement.
“Any information or records that have been requested prior to this turn of events will still be collected as they arrive as a matter of formalities and included in the overall case.”
The house into which Heche crashed into has also shared her condolences online. Lynne Mishele only suffered minor injuries after trying to remove her pets from the burning house as reported by Deadline.
