Arlo Parks has announced details of her new album Ambiguous Desire, alongside the release of its lead single ‘2SIDED’.
The record follows My Soft Machine, released in 2023, and her 2021 debut Collapsed In Sunbeams. Ambiguous Desire is produced by Baird, best known for his work with Brockhampton and Kevin Abstract, and is rooted in Parks’ recent time living in New York.
New single ‘2SIDED’ is out now. Speaking about the track, Parks says it centres on tension and attraction, and the moment where feeling turns into something spoken. “At its core ‘2SIDED’ is about yearning and tension,” she explains. “It’s about being struck by a bolt of desire and building up the courage to put language to that feeling, to make it real.”
Parks has also spoken about how the album took shape through New York nightlife, club spaces, and social scenes. She describes dancing more than ever while writing the record, finding herself pulled into juke nights and underground parties, and allowing that sense of movement and immediacy to feed into the songs.
“Desire is a life force,” she says. “It’s a wanting, a momentum. But it’s also mysterious, tangled, random, enlightening and human.”
Further details around Ambiguous Desire, including a release date and live plans, are expected to follow.
