Asha Jefferies shares new single ‘Cool Guy’ from sophomore album Desire Is An Angel

Asha Jefferies has shared new single ‘Cool Guy’, the second preview of her sophomore album Desire Is An Angel, due 2nd October via Nettwerk.

The Brisbane-based Australian songwriter released her debut album Ego Ride in 2024 to strong international attention, earning a Queensland Music Award, an AIR Award nomination for Best Pop Album and tour slots supporting Courtney Barnett, Soccer Mommy, Hana Vu and Middle Kids. She returned to the UK in late 2025 to record the follow-up with producer Tom Iansek, who has previously worked with Big Scary and Maple Glider.

Desire Is An Angel treats desire not as something born of lack but as a force through which self-knowledge develops. “It’s less about getting what you want, and more about understanding what you want and why you want it,” Jefferies has said. Both previous singles explore that idea from different angles: first single ‘Art Of Suggestion’ examined the electrifying projection of desire before it is confirmed; ‘Cool Guy’ examines what happens when it is not reciprocated at all.

Written after Jefferies’ first trip to New York, the track takes the form of an alt-country song that builds from a deliberately rough, home-demo-like opening into something much larger. The subject is unrequited longing and the particular denial that comes with it. “I realised I am more often than not, in denial when I’m longing for something or someone,” she has said. “Yearning feels heavier, more punishing and unproductive when it’s not reciprocated. I’d really like to pretend to be the cool guy if possible.”
