Blonde Redhead have released new song ‘Blood Spilled’, out now via section1.
The track marks a shift for the trio, Kazu Makino and twin brothers Simone and Amedeo Pace, moving away from the sound of 2023’s acclaimed album Sit Down for Dinner and its 2025 companion piece, ‘The Shadow of the Guest’. ‘Blood Spilled’ is a more direct, urgent piece of songwriting, dealing with trauma, pain and the endurance of the soul.
The song arrives with a photograph taken in a hospital ward, marking the band’s reconvening following a horse riding accident.
Makino has described the period surrounding the song as one of sustained grief, saying she has come to understand that death “means the end of the body but not the soul.” She has spoken about feeling connected to those she’s lost, and about writing the song as an expression of the free will held by both body and soul.
‘Blood Spilled’ is out now via section1.
