Bonnie Kemplay has returned with her new single ‘Big Machine’, her first release in three years.

The Scotland-born, London-based songwriter first emerged with a debut EP that paired sharp, pop-leaning instincts with diaristic songwriting. Following that release, she stepped away, turning her attention inward and allowing space for both personal and creative development.

“When I released my first EP, my artist identity was deeply intertwined with who I was,” she says. “Since then, I’ve discovered who I am beyond music.”

‘Big Machine’ marks her re-entry, picking up on the emotional directness of her earlier work while broadening its scope. The track centres on her move to London, tracing the disorientation and momentum of city life, where experience can feel both immediate and oddly distant.

Lyrically, it searches for meaning within that flux. Moments of clarity sit alongside a sense of overwhelm, as the song maps the tension between control and drift.

“I like storytelling and trying to capture a feeling or a moment,” Bonnie explains. “A lot of these songs come from conversations and shared experiences.”

She adds: “I wrote ‘Big Machine’ shortly after moving to London. It’s about being swept into a new life, running on autopilot, and the helplessness and overwhelm of watching the world unravel on your phone.”

There is a quiet confidence in how the track unfolds, its structure allowing the narrative to breathe rather than forcing resolution. It signals an artist returning with a more defined sense of self, and a clearer understanding of what she wants her music to hold.

With ‘Big Machine’, Bonnie Kemplay re-establishes her voice, grounding personal experience in a wider emotional landscape while retaining the intimacy that first set her apart.
