As the nation mourns the death of its longest-reigning monarch and one of its most admired figures, Sir Elton John, Sir Paul McCartney, Dame Shirley Bassey, Dame Helen Mirren and countless other national icons of the entertainment industry have spoken of their admiration for Queen Elizabeth II. The Queen’s death, at Balmoral Castle in Scotland yesterday, marked an end of her 70 year-rule and the Elizabethan age. Her firstborn son has ascended to throne with immediate effect, now becoming King Charles III. Here’s a collection of tributes so far offered from the entertainment world.

Sir Elton John

“Along with the rest of the nation, I am deeply saddened to hear the news of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth’s passing. She was an inspiring presence to be around and led the country through some of our greatest and darkest moments with grace, decency and a genuine caring warmth.” “Queen Elizabeth has been a huge part of my life from childhood to this day, and I will miss her dearly.”

Dame Shirley Bassey

“There is a reason why Her Majesty The Queen was admired not just at home but across the world. Through triumph and adversity, her devotion to our country has spanned eras of unprecedented change. In all that time she remained steadfast, dignified, inspirational.” “Her courage was mighty, her example iconic. She was an unstoppable force. Your Majesty, from the bottom of my heart I thank you for all that you have done. I shall miss you deeply.” Sir Mick Jagger “For my whole life Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II has always been there. In my childhood I can recall watching her wedding highlights on TV. I remember her as a beautiful young lady, to the much beloved grandmother of the nation. My deepest sympathies are with the Royal family.”

Sir Tom Jones

“Queen Elizabeth II was a constant presence and inspiration throughout my life. She was a reassuring force in difficult times, her dedication was faultless and her commitment to duty unrivalled. I am honoured and blessed to have witnessed her reign. My deepest sympathies to The Royal Family, and gratefully I say, long live The King.”

“I’m mourning along with the rest of my country, the passing of a great Queen. I’m proud to call myself of the Elizabethan age.  If there was a definition of nobility, Elizabeth Windsor embodied it.”

Ozzy Osbourne

“I mourn with my country the passing of our greatest Queen.  With a heavy heart I say it is devastating the thought of England without Queen Elizabeth II”
