The track, ‘Hold Me Closer’, is the first new music to come from Britney Spears following a 13-year conservatorship which dictated virtually every aspect of her life and was, for the most part, controlled by her father, Jamie Spears. News of the collaboration was teased when Sir Elton John posted an image of the track title and a rose and rocket emoji. Spears’ controversial conservatorship came to an end in November last year, after years of the #FreeBritney movement which culminated in a ruling from Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Brenda Penny for it to be terminated. However, the legal battle between the ‘Toxic’ singer and her father continues, over issues of financial misconduct and surveillance.
The singer and her now husband, Sam Asghari, also had to contend with the loss of a baby in early pregnancy in May. Spears’ ex-husband, Jason Alexander, was also charged with stalking, trespassing, battery and vandalism after gate-crashing the singer’s wedding – charges he’s pleaded not guilty to. Amidst all the troubling news for the star, it’s therefore welcome to see news of new music coming from the singer. And whilst little information has been given, given its title, it’s understood to be a reworking of Sir Elton John’s 1971 single ‘Tiny Dancer’.View this post on Instagram
