Cardinals have shared new single ‘I Like You’, the latest track to be taken from their forthcoming debut album Masquerade.

The album is set for release on 13th February via So Young Recordings and arrives as the band prepare for a busy run of headline shows across the UK and Ireland. Among the dates is a London show at The Garage on 11th March, with much of the new record already worked into their live set.

‘I Like You’ captures a softer, more direct side of the band’s songwriting. Built around gentle accordion lines and an unguarded vocal delivery, the track nods subtly to ‘My Funny Valentine’, borrowing a line from the jazz standard and reframing it within a contemporary indie setting.

The single is accompanied by a live performance filmed at Cork’s Everyman venue, placing the song in an intimate setting that suits its tone.

Frontman Euan Manning explained the significance of the track in the context of the album: “This is the first song we wrote with the album in mind. After a very long period of not working on anything we started and finished this some bright morning last February in our practice studio. It felt cathartic, a completely grounding moment after feeling slightly lost for months.”

He added: “The first lyric is stripped and paraphrased from the tune ‘My Funny Valentine’. I don’t think it was written by Chet Baker but that’s the version we know.”
