Toledo, Ohio band Citizen have released new single ‘Good Fortune’, the final teaser before their new album, Halcyon Blues, out this Friday, August 7th, via Run For Cover Records.
‘Good Fortune’ follows earlier singles ‘I Can See You from Here’, ‘Halcyon Blues’ and ‘Highs and Lows’, all of which drew attention from Rolling Stone, Stereogum, Consequence, BrooklynVegan, Alt Press and Vice. The album was recorded by frontman Mat Kerekes and mixed by Tom Lorde-Alge, whose credits include U2, Weezer and Blink-182.
Now 17 years into their career, Citizen have moved from a group of Toledo high schoolers to headliners capable of selling out shows worldwide, evolving through raw emo, post-hardcore, anthemic alternative and garage-y indie pop along the way. Halcyon Blues draws on that full history, pulling elements from across the band’s catalogue into a single record. Guitarist Nick Hamm has said the band has never chased short-term relevance, explaining that “we don’t think in moments, or months, or record cycles.”
Citizen will tour extensively behind the album, starting in North America with support from Anxious, Hotline TNT, Rocket and Cryogeyser, before UK and European dates with Modern Color, and an Australian run with Drug Church.
