Manchester’s Cruush have dropped their new single ‘Rupert Giles’, promising the start of a new era for the band.

Recorded with producer Owen Turner at Sickroom Studios in Norfolk, the track tightens their trademark gloom into sharper focus. It’s louder, leaner and more purposeful, the sound of a band pushing forward after a long spell of creative frustration.

“We went on a writing retreat to Wales and hiked up Penygader at sunrise,” the band said. “We’d been listening to Neil Young, Brownhorse and Van Halen’s ‘Panama’. By the time we reached the lake, we knew we had a great song.”

The single arrives with a video steeped in 90s MTV nostalgia, a playful nod to the era that first fused grit with melody on mainstream TV.

Cruush are Amber Warren, Arthur Boyd, Fotis Kalantzis and Bruno Evans. Their mix of grunge, shoegaze and indie melancholia has earned attention from Jack Saunders, Steve Lamacq and John Kennedy, as well as press support from The Line of Best Fit, Clash and NME.

They’ve toured with BDRMM, Pale Blue Eyes, Girl Scout and NewDad, and will hit the road again through late 2025 and early 2026, including dates in Manchester, London, Leeds and Paris.

As the band put it, their music is “gross, awkward but pretty fucking rockin’.” ‘Rupert Giles’ proves the point.
