Dirty Nice are taking us to a whole new world with the release of their latest video for ‘Another Life’, the third offering from their much-anticipated album Planet Weekend.
Due for release on 23rd May, the album promises to be their most ambitious yet, combining glitch-pop, psychedelic indie, and surreal animation to create something refreshingly bizarre.
The video for ‘Another Life’ adds another layer to the band’s signature ‘cartoon-pop’ style, featuring an aquatic Ambrose Kenny-Smith being returned to the waters, symbolising a transformation of sorts. The playful, otherworldly visuals are as weird and wonderful as you’d expect from a band that has made their name at the intersection of indie music and animated creativity.
Director Hayden Somerville captured the feeling of awe and joy, saying, “There are so many strange and beautiful ways to grow wings and fly,” reflecting the video’s surreal, playful nature.
This new video is part of the band’s larger Planet Weekend concept, which brings to life an imaginary amusement park filled with “strange and beautiful” encounters. The album mixes the whimsical with the cosmic, and if the first singles are anything to go by, Planet Weekend will be full of infectious hooks and those deep, psychedelic grooves.
The band, who are split between London and Lisbon, have been steadily building a cult following with their eccentric mix of music and animation. Their previous album, Surrenderland (2023), was a hit, featuring the track ‘This Is Gonna Hurt’, which has been streamed nearly three million times and earned a place in the movie Novocaine (featuring Jack Quaid and Amber Midthunder). They’ve also got plays and attention from The Fader, Rolling Stone, and DIY, and stations like BBC Radio 1 and 6 Music.
The band’s also been busy preparing for a busy summer, with a performance at BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Liverpool on 25th May, followed by their upcoming UK tour in October.
Planet Weekend will be released on 23rd May but can be pre-ordered now. The band have already set the stage for something special.
