Dora Jar is back, and she’s feeling Lucky.
The rising folk-pop experimentalist has just dropped her first new music since last year’s debut album, No Way To Relax When You Are On Fire. If the album was a surrealist dreamscape of genre-blurring sounds, ‘Lucky’ is a fresh extension of that world: otherworldly but intimate, strange yet familiar.
The track arrives alongside a Vevo live session, where Dora’s signature mix of airy vocals and grounded storytelling takes centre stage. It’s a performance that feels both weightless and deeply rooted, the kind that makes you sit still for a second and just listen.
Right now, she’s on the road supporting Gracie Abrams across the UK and Europe, bringing her off-kilter charm to massive crowds. For an artist who once built a mud cob hut in Mississippi while recording her debut, playing arenas might seem like a different kind of construction project, but one she’s handling with ease.
From DIY roots to the big stage
Dora’s career has been anything but conventional. Born in New York, raised in LA, and seemingly always in transit, she first caught ears with indie gems like ‘Multiply’ before carving out her own lane, somewhere between folk, rock, pop, and whatever else feels right at the time.
Her 2021 debut EP Digital Meadow set the tone, while 2022’s comfortably in pain solidified her reputation for writing songs that feel like private thoughts set to music. A stint opening for Billie Eilish on the Happier Than Ever tour followed, as did sold-out headline shows and a slot supporting The 1975 on their arena run. By 2024, she was making her festival debut at Lollapalooza, proving her ability to command both tiny clubs and massive stages.
