English Teacher are bringing us a fresh live EP straight from the legendary BBC Maida Vale Studios. The Live From BBC Maida Vale Studios EP, out 30th August via Island Records, serves up five tracks, including a couple of surprise covers that show off their range and style.
This EP is packed with fan favorites from their Mercury Prize-shortlisted debut album, This Could Be Texas. Expect to hear ‘The World’s Biggest Paving Slab’, ‘You Blister My Paint’, and of course, the title track itself. But what really makes this release stand out are the two covers: Billie Eilish’s ‘Birds of a Feather’ and LCD Soundsystem’s ‘New York, I Love You But You’re Bringing Me Down’. English Teacher puts their own spin on these tracks, proving once again that they can take on just about anything.

It’s been a wild ride for English Teacher since dropping This Could Be Texas earlier this year. The album shot up the charts and racked up five-star reviews left and right. NME called it “a landmark debut,” and The Sunday Times went as far as to say it’s “one of the great debut albums of the 21st century.”
And the hype doesn’t stop there. The band have just announced their biggest headline tour yet, kicking off in November, with stops at some major venues like London’s O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire and Manchester’s O2 Ritz. Before that, they’ll be heading across the pond in September to support IDLES on a full North American tour. Not too shabby for a group that’s still on the rise.
English Teacher has been on fire lately, especially after their killer performance on Later… with Jools Holland and being named the Official Independent Venue Week Artist Ambassador for 2024. With this new EP and a massive tour on the horizon, it’s clear they’re only just getting started.
