Fresh from winning the 2024 Mercury Prize for their acclaimed debut album, This Could Be Texas, Yorkshire indie band English Teacher have shared a new live video for their track ‘Not Everybody Gets To Go To Space’. The video, released in collaboration with Pinterest’s Predicts 2025 series, is a visual feast set against the striking backdrops of The Historic Dockyard in Chatham and the eerie beauty of Dungeness Beach.

Directed by Simon Lane, the video embraces Pinterest’s trending “Fisherman Aesthetic” for 2025, a laid-back maritime vibe featuring cable-knit sweaters, striped tops, and, apparently, sardine tattoos. Lane explained, “The aim was to create a fisherman aesthetic for Pinterest, letting that guide every creative decision from the epic dockyard location, through styling – like Lily’s lobster knitwear – and art direction with lobster pots, buoys, and fishing nets. We had a lot of fun making it!”

The collaboration gave the band creative freedom to bring their interpretation of the trend to life. The result is a moody yet playful piece that captures English Teacher’s unique flair for storytelling and their knack for striking visuals.

English Teacher’s rise this year has been meteoric. Their debut album hit number 8 on the UK charts and was hailed as a “landmark debut” by NME. The accolades didn’t stop there—they clinched the 2024 Mercury Prize and have just been shortlisted for BBC Radio 1’s Sound of 2025. Critics have described This Could Be Texas as “one of the great debut albums of the 21st century” (The Sunday Times) and “an absolute masterpiece” (Dork).

With sold-out UK and European headline tours under their belt and festival dates lined up for 2025, the band are firmly focused on their next chapter: album number two.

The live video release rounds off a landmark year for the Leeds-based quartet, whose biting social commentary and genre-spanning sound have marked them out as one of the UK’s most exciting new acts. As English Teacher set their sights on the future, fans can look forward to more innovative projects and bold new music. And if ‘Not Everybody Gets To Go To Space’ is any indication, the sky (or space) is the limit.
