Far Caspian has released the contemplative new single ‘An Outstretched Hand / Rain From Here To Kerry’, the latest track from upcoming album Autofiction, due 25th July on Tiny Library Records.
It follows the warmly received lead single ‘First Day’ and arrives with a self-directed video from Irish songwriter and producer Joel Johnston, the sole force behind the project.
The song ties together two stories: the early days of a relationship, and a storm-lashed 2014 road trip across Ireland. “It felt like one of those moments in life that will always be with you,” Johnston explains, recalling an all-night drive from Kerry to home, wide awake in the passenger seat while his friends slept. “Especially at that younger age when the world feels like it’s in need of exploring.”
Instrumentally, the track is expansive but grounded – led by chiming guitars, bright textures, and tight, lively percussion. It captures the emotional immediacy and unfiltered quality Johnston says defines the Autofiction LP, which he produced, mixed, mastered, and performed entirely himself in his Leeds studio.
After briefly considering stepping away from the project, Johnston found creative fuel in producing for others, including Ellur and Green Gardens. That reset helped him return to his own material with a looser, more instinctive mindset. “I’m enjoying this right now and therefore it’s good enough,” he said of the new process.
Far Caspian will tour across Ireland, Britain, Europe, and the US this autumn, including a headline show at London’s Scala on 11th September.
