Gang of Youths have returned with new single ‘Things Take Time’, their first new music in four years.
The release follows a landmark run of shows for the band, including their first-ever headline performances at the Sydney Opera House and Anita’s Theatre. Reviewing the Opera House shows, the Sydney Morning Herald called the band’s ease onstage “a trick only the truly great acts can pull off,” while RUSSH noted their ability to “make a venue as imposing as the Sydney Opera House feel this intimate.”
Written by David Le’aupepe, Tom Hobden, Donnie Borzestowski and Jung Kim, ‘Things Take Time’ reflects on patience, transformation and the cyclical nature of life, anchored by a recurring hook about everything unfolding in its own time. The band have described the song’s subject as the endless loop of birth, growth, death and rebirth.
The recording features Le’aupepe on vocals and piano, Hobden on violin, Borzestowski on drums and Kim on guitar and keyboards, joined by Andrew Burgess on bass, Nick Etwell on trumpet, Dave Williamson on trombone and Klara Schumann on cello. Produced by the band themselves, the track was recorded at Decoy Studios in Suffolk, mixed by Ben Baptie at Piano Sing in London, and mastered by Joe LaPorta at Sterling Sound in New Jersey.
The single marks the start of a new chapter following two acclaimed albums: Go Farther in Lightness, which won four ARIA Awards including Album of the Year, Best Group, Best Rock Album and Best Producer, and reached number one on the ARIA Albums Chart; and Angel in Realtime, also a number one ARIA album and winner of triple j’s Album of the Year in 2022.
‘Things Take Time’ is out now.
