The Healing Power of Horses release debut EP Summer Indoors (or outside wearing black)

East Anglian duo The Healing Power of Horses have released their debut EP, Summer Indoors (or outside wearing black), via section1, alongside focus track ‘TOURNIQUET’.

The EP follows two singles that built steady momentum across the UK press. ‘i wait, i sink’ was named Track of the Week at Loud & Quiet and picked out by Emily Pilbeam on BBC 6 Music’s Introducing Mixtape, with further support from The Line of Best Fit, So Young, DIY and CLASH. Its follow-up, ‘In Yr Right Hand Reveal Heaven’, drew similar attention and saw the band named Breaking Artist at BBC 6 Music.

Across four tracks, Summer Indoors (or outside wearing black) moves between brittle rhythm and blown-out texture, unsettled pop hooks giving way to quieter, more disorientating passages. ‘TOURNIQUET’ is the most direct cut on the record, a sharper, more pop-facing turn that hints at where the duo might go next.

The band signed to section1, the Los Angeles-based sister label to Partisan Records, earlier this year, joining a roster that includes RIP Magic, Blonde Redhead and King Princess. They’ve since played a run of shows across London and at The Great Escape, and supported RIP Magic at the label’s fifth birthday show.

The EP arrives ahead of a busy touring stretch. The Healing Power of Horses play Green Man Festival and QMU Weekender in Glasgow this August, before dates at Psych Fest in Manchester, Dark Arts at Belgrave Hall in Leeds, and their first shows in mainland Europe at Left of the Dial in Rotterdam and Pitchfork Avant Garde in Paris.
