Independent Venue Week has officially begun its 2026 edition, launching a seven-day programme featuring more than 700 shows across the UK.
Running from John O’Groats to Falmouth, the annual initiative brings together independent venues, artists, promoters, record labels, agents, and broadcasters to highlight the role grassroots spaces play in sustaining the UK’s live music ecosystem. Events are spread across cities, towns, and villages, with thousands of artists performing in venues that operate year-round but often face quieter trading periods at this time of year.
Since its launch in 2013, Independent Venue Week has sold over one million tickets, with 2026 marking a ten per cent increase in participating venues compared to last year. The growth reflects both industry support and renewed audience appetite for live, in-person experiences.
Founder and CEO Sybil Bell links the expansion to a wider cultural shift. “More than ever, fans are showing that they want to be out, in person with mates, being in the moment and not on a screen,” she says, adding that venues are equally keen for a week that feels “positive and celebratory”.
This year’s programme is anchored by exclusive ambassador shows from Nova Twins, Scottish folk-punk outfit Brògeal, and Welsh singer-songwriter Eve Goodman. Nova Twins return to their South London roots with an intimate show at The Amersham Arms, while Brògeal play dates in Galashiels and Dumfries. Goodman is set to perform a solo show at Mold’s Caffi Isa, alongside additional dates in Swansea and Pembroke.
BBC Radio 6 Music continues its involvement as a broadcast partner, with Steve Lamacq and Huw Stephens hosting a live Teatime Session from Strings in Newport on the Isle of Wight. Throughout the week, BBC Introducing presenters will also spotlight emerging artists performing across the country.
A new collaboration with the PRS Foundation’s Early Career Promoter Fund will see five promoter grantees curate shows in Birmingham, Manchester, Brighton, York, and London, pairing new talent with established acts and reinforcing Independent Venue Week’s developmental focus.
Alongside live performances, the programme includes a series of industry discussions and community-led events. These include Lord Kevin Brennan hosting an open forum at Cardiff’s Clwb Ifor Bach as part of his Fan-Led Review of Live Music.
Artists performing across the week span a wide range of styles and generations, including Dove Ellis, Sorry, Naima Bock, Buzzcocks, Dream Wife, Silver Gore, Gwenifer Raymond, and Dylan LeBlanc.
