Inhaler have shared their new single ‘Hole In The Ground’, a lively track that lands just ahead of their headline show at London’s Royal Albert Hall this Friday, 31st October.
The Dublin band released their third album Open Wide back in February, recorded with Kid Harpoon at Abbey Road Studios. It signals another step up for the four-piece, showing a more swashbuckling and melodic side to their sound.
The new single builds on that energy, and according to the band it’s more than just a leftover from those sessions.
“To us, ‘Hole In The Ground’ is a song that was born out of our stream of consciousness,” says frontman Eli Hewson. “Some time away from writing allowed us to go into the studio with a sort of blank slate which felt inspiring. It can be hard to talk about the meaning of your own songs sometimes but we see it as something fragile growing amongst a wreckage. Or that last blurry memory you have of a person. It’s sort of a meditation on hope and keeping yourself awake to life.”
It’s a line that sums up much of what Inhaler do best: writing songs that mix immediacy with introspection, confidence with uncertainty. Since their 2021 debut It Won’t Always Be Like This, which went straight to number one in Ireland and the UK, the band have steadily grown into one of the biggest indie acts of their generation, building a loyal live following across Europe and beyond.
‘Hole In The Ground’ keeps that momentum going, full of sharp hooks and restless energy that should slot easily into their live set. It’s the kind of track that feels tailor-made for a big night at the Royal Albert Hall, and comes as Inhaler continue to evolve from promising newcomers into a fully-fledged arena band.
Made up of Eli Hewson, Josh Jenkinson, Robert Keating and Ryan McMahon, Inhaler have spent the past few years balancing chart success with relentless touring. Open Wide, their third record, has been praised for its polish and ambition, while this new single shows they’re still finding fresh ways to surprise listeners.
‘Hole In The Ground’ is out now on all streaming platforms.
