The donations come amid internal employee grievances over CEO Jim Ryan’s comments on abortion and Roe v. Wade.

Insomniac Games and Sony Interactive Entertainment are both donating $50 000 each to Women’s Reproductive Rights Assistance Project (WRRAP) after Jim Ryan sent a company-wide email, asking PlayStation employees to  “respect differences of opinion.” Fair enough, but Ryan then went on to ramble about his cats’ birthdays and how he wants to get a dog.

His email, which was sent on May 12, was greeted with anger. The U.S. Supreme Court potential decision to overturn Roe v. Wade has been highly controversial and many women feel that their bodily autonomy is on the line and Ryan’s email was seen as dismissive and insensitive.

Along with the donation, according to The Washington Post, Sony is planning on setting up a program to financially help employees who may have to cross state lines in order to seek reproductive care. Sony will also match any donations made by individual employees to the charity, as long as they’re made via the company’s PlayStation Cares program.

The Washington Post also reports that while neither company is planning on tweeting about the donations, Insomniac – which is owned by PlayStation – employees specifically aren’t allowed to publicly acknowledge the donation.
