Is this an ad for the new Rolling Stones album?

You’d think one of the greatest bands in history wouldn’t be advertising a potential forthcoming album in a local newspaper, but it appears The Rolling Stones have done just that – or at least all the signs are there.

You’d think one of the greatest bands in history wouldn’t be advertising a potential forthcoming album in a local newspaper, but it appears The Rolling Stones have done just that – or at least all the signs are there.
The ad for a fictional glass repair business has appeared in the Hackney Gazette, with reference to some of the Stones’ all-time classics. “Our friendly team promises you satisfaction,” it reads. “When you say gimme shelter we’ll fix your shattered windows.” The font is even the same used for the band’s 1978 record Some Girls; and, if that wasn’t enough, the year this company was apparently established was 1962 – the same year The Rolling Stones formed.

Dotting the ‘i’ on ‘Diamonds’ is also a small logo that looks undeniably like The Rolling Stones’ iconic lips and tongue logo. Even more clues appear if you visit the website provided, where you can sign up to a mailing list belonging to the band’s label, Universal Music.

What’s more, call the number provided and a voicemail tells you: “Welcome to Hackney Diamonds, specialists in glass repair: don’t get angry, get it fixed.  “Opening early September, Mare Street, E8. Register for a call at www.hackneydiamonds.com. Come on then.”

The ad, first spotted by Clash Magazine and Sharper Content founder Simon Harper, has now led many fans to believe the forthcoming record – which would be the Stones’ 31st studio album – is called Hackney Diamonds The term is a slang term for broken glass, mostly referring to the shards left on the ground after thieves break into cars and shop windows. Were a new album confirmed, it would mark the band’s 31st record and their first since 2016’s Blues and Lonesome covers album of blues songs; it would also be the first original material since 2005’s A Bigger Bang and the first since the death of the band’s late, great drummer Charlie Watts. In February, Variety reported that the yet-to-be-confirmed album would likely feature none other than the two surviving Beatles, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, following recording sessions that took place at the start of the year.
