Juan Wauters has announced his seventh studio album MVD LUV, a tribute to his birthplace and hometown of Montevideo, Uruguay. The record arrives on 27th June and marks the first time Wauters has recorded a full-length project in the city where he grew up.

The lead single, ‘If It’s Not Luv’, is a breezy, hypnotic cut that explores love’s euphoric qualities with simple, mantra-like lyrics and a buoyant rhythm. Its understated percussion and twangy guitar create a relaxed, immersive atmosphere, underscoring Wauters’ playful comparisons of love to a drug.

“Though I’m from here, this is the first time I get to record an album here,” Wauters said of returning to Montevideo. “I have always longed to do this. Let’s get to it, make it through it, MVD LUV a.k.a. Amor Montevideo.”

With much of the album recorded across rooftops, sidewalks, and living rooms in Montevideo, MVD LUV captures the everyday sounds and spirit of the city. Its 14 tracks run short and sweet, many clocking in under two minutes, but together form a textured, affectionate portrait of Wauters’ hometown.

Songs like ‘Manejando por Pando’ and ‘Siempre Vuelven’ reflect on the act of returning, while ‘Ando con Miedo’ touches on urban anxiety, and ‘Dime Amiga’ explores intimacy and personal reflection. Throughout, Wauters draws on candombe and murga traditions, folding them into his loose, bilingual blend of folk, pop and indie songwriting.

The album continues a quietly consistent run for the Uruguayan-American artist, who has built a devoted following with his warm, conversational songwriting and offbeat charm. MVD LUV may be his most grounded and personal work to date, a postcard from the city that shaped him.
