Bullet Train / August 3
August kicks off to an action-packed start with David Leitch’s Bullet Train. Brad Pitt plays Ladybug, a highly trained assassin who is after a mysterious briefcase on board a train. The thing, so are a lot of other deadly people. Expect a lot of fast-paced, skillfully choreographed fight scenes from the director of Atomic Blonde.
Nope / August 12
Jordan Peele is back with another mind-boggling mystery. While we know fairly little about Nope, we do know it follows siblings Em (Keke Palmer) and OJ (Daniel Kaluuya) and potential aliens. Steven Yeun also stars as a former child movie star who is now exploiting a past tragedy for his financial gain and we’re sure whatever Peele has cooked up, we will be thoroughly entertained and disturbed.
Orphan: First Kill / August 19
Fans have been begging for a sequel to 2009’s The Orphan and here we are, 13 years later. Isabelle Fuhrman returns in this prequel which further explores the murderous Esther’s origins. Esther memorably looks like a child but is in fact a fully grown adult with a lot of violent tendencies and it seems that Julia Stiles is on the receiving end of those.
Fisherman’s Friends: One And All / August 19
A sequel to 2019’s surprise hit Fisherman’s Friends, this film continues the incredible true story of a singing group formed of Cornish fishermen. One and All chronicles the group’s struggles with fame and success and their road to playing at Glastonbury in 2011. Expect good vibes and hearty laughs.
Beast / August 26
August comes to an end with quite the bang. Idris Elba stars a widowed father on a trip to South Africa with his two daughters. The trip goes awry when a man-hunting, rogue lion attacks them and Elba must find a way to kill the beast before it kills them. Cheery.
The Invitation / August 26
Last but not least, The Invitation is here to fulfil any horror needs you may have. Nathalie Emmanuel is Evie, who discovers her long-lost family in England and travels down for a wedding. She soon finds herself the unwilling bride of the event and her family seems to have an unhealthy taste for blood.
