The new album arrives on 3rd November via Video Store/RCA Records, and news of its impending release has been marked by the release of cinematic video, ‘Gum’. Last week, Kevin Abstract delivered the forthcoming record’s title track, which was much more of a grunge affair than we’re used to hearing from the rapper and singer. Have a watch of ‘Gum’ below, which previews new music and gives a further sense of what’s in store for the project. The new album was created over a three-month span in early 2023, mostly alongside Kevin’s longtime collaborator and producer Romil Hemnani, in addition to multi-instrumentalist Jonah Abraham. As ‘Blanket’ indicated, Abstract is pulling from a wide range of influences and notably pulling from the world of rock significantly more than his previous work. “I wanted to make, like, a Sunny Day Real Estate, Nirvana, Modest Mouse type of record,” Kevin says. “But I wanted it to hit like a rap album.”

Blanket will mark Abstract’s third studio album in total and his first since the Brockhampton group he founded disbanded last year; they announced their decision during a Coachella performance, before putting out two records: The Family and TM. Abstract’s forthcoming LP is available for pre-order now, and there are also two exclusive Blanket merchandise packs, available now at the artist’s shop. Check out the album artwork below.
