Kurt Vile has announced his new album Philadelphia’s been good to me, set for release on 29th May via Verve Records.
The American songwriter returns to his roots on the Kurt Vile Philadelphia’s been good to me album, a record shaped by his connection to his home city. Spanning 11 tracks, it’s framed as both a reflection and a statement of intent.
“This is my ‘bringing it all back home to Philly’ record,” Vile says. “I’m treating it like my last record. I put everything into it. It’s my best vocal record. It’s my best electric guitar record. It’s my most organic record, made in the comfort of my own zone.”
New single ‘Chance To Bleed’ offers a first taste. Recorded with his band The Violators in Athens, Georgia, before additional sessions in Memphis and Los Angeles, the track leans into a rough-edged, high-energy sound. Guest contributions come from Natalie Hoffman, Ethan Buckler and Greg Cartwright, the latter trading lead guitar lines with Vile.
Described by Vile as “some new kinda higher energy rager”, the song draws on lo-fi rock traditions while retaining his loose, instinctive approach to songwriting. The accompanying video expands that spirit, featuring a cast of collaborators and friends.
An international tour will follow the album’s release, including a headline show at Troxy on 9th September.
