British-Brazilian artist Liana Flores has announced her debut album, Flower of the Soul, set for release on 28th June via Verve Records and Fiction Records. The album, blending elements of British folk, classic jazz, and Brazilian pop, explores transformation in all its forms.
In addition to the album announcement, Flores has released a new single, ‘Nightvisions’, along with an accompanying music video directed by Angela Ricciardi. This follows her previous single, ‘I Wish for the Rain’, released last month.
Flores commented on her new single: “‘Nightvisions’ is a romantic song about someone trying to be romantic but come off a bit crazy and delusional in the pursuit of love. Influenced by my favourite gothic romances, ‘Nightvisions’ uses a vampiric love story to explore the power of love to transform.”
Flower of the Soul features collaborations with co-producer and mixer Noah Georgeson, known for his work with Joanna Newsom and Devendra Banhart. Instrumental collaborators include Chris Bear of Grizzly Bear on percussion, Brazilian music virtuoso Jaques Morelenbaum, and acclaimed Brazilian musician Tim Bernardes. The album was written and recorded after Flores completed her studies in Zoology at the University of St Andrews.

Flores described the album: “Flower of the Soul wanders through many stylistic influences, from sunshine pop, to bossa nova, to 60s psych folk, evoking the changing seasons of life and nature, and the core emotions that persist throughout.”
Growing up in small-town South Norfolk, Flores discovered her love for music by picking out familiar melodies on an electric keyboard. In her late teens, her obsession with bossa nova led her to pick up the guitar and combine her wide-ranging musical influences with imaginative lyricism.
