Little Simz has today released her sixth studio album Lotus via AWAL Recordings. The 13-track project arrives after a string of well-received singles, ‘Young’, ‘Free’, and ‘Flood’, and sees Simz once again teaming up with producer Miles Clinton James.

Described as her most personal work to date, Lotus draws on a wide range of sonic influences, from punk and samba to soul and jazz. According to the press release, the album “embodies renewal and growth,” with Simz using the record to explore fear, betrayal, self-doubt and, ultimately, personal liberation.

Guests on the album include Michael Kiwanuka, Sampha, Moses Sumney, Obongjayar, Wretch 32, Yussef Dayes and Miraa May, among others. The artwork and visuals for the singles suggest a continuation of the cinematic, character-led style Simz has developed in recent years, though full details of the album’s narrative or arc remain under wraps.

The release follows a landmark run for Simz, who curated this year’s Meltdown Festival at the Southbank Centre (running from 12th to 22nd June), and will play two of her biggest headline shows to date this autumn, 16th October at Manchester’s Co-op Live and 17th October at The O2 in London.

Simz’s last two full-length projects, Sometimes I Might Be Introvert and surprise release NO THANK YOU, were both widely acclaimed. The former won the 2022 Mercury Prize and an Ivor Novello, cementing her status as one of the UK’s most original and uncompromising voices.

Lotus is out now on all major platforms.
