Little Simz has shared a new single, Young’, alongside a character-driven video directed by longtime collaborator Dave Meyers.
It’s the third track released from her upcoming album Lotus, due 6th June, and offers a notable shift in tone from earlier singles ‘Free’ and ‘Flood’ This one leans into a punk sensibility, with Simz adopting a more playful vocal delivery and framing the track as a moment of light relief. “I was able to tap into a character. That was fun for me. It’s just a moment of light heartedness,” she said.
The video for ‘Young’ reunites Simz with Meyers, who previously directed the much-lauded visuals for ‘Gorilla’. Production comes from Miles Clinton James, whose contributions mark a notable departure in sound across the Lotus tracklist.
The full album features a stacked lineup of collaborators, including Michael Kiwanuka, Yussef Dayes, Moses Sumney, Sampha, Miraa May, Obongjayar, Wretch 32, and Moonchild Sanelly. Its title, Lotus, points toward renewal and growth, consistent with Simz’s continued evolution across music, screen, and stage.
Two major UK arena dates are lined up for the autumn: Manchester’s Co-Op Live on 16th October and London’s O2 Arena the following night. Meanwhile, Simz has also curated this year’s Meltdown Festival at the Southbank Centre, joining the ranks of previous curators such as David Bowie and Grace Jones. She’ll close the event with a special show alongside Chineke! Orchestra, already sold out.
Lotus will be Simz’s sixth studio album, following 2022’s NO THANK YOU and her Mercury Prize-winning Sometimes I Might Be Introvert in 2021. As ever, she’s moving forward on her own terms.
