Loyle Carner shares new video for ‘Lyin’ and announces new album Hopefully!

Loyle Carner has shared the video for his new single ‘Lyin’, a quietly affecting short film that he both stars in and directs.

Shot in Latvia and produced by Spindle, the video offers a dreamline meditation on childhood, memory and fatherhood, bringing together surreal imagery with the track’s tender mix of lullaby guitar and hushed rap.

‘Lyin’ arrives ahead of Hopefully!, Carner’s fourth album, due 20th June. A follow up to 2022’s Hugo, the new record promises a shift in tone, described as a “life-affirming exploration of fatherhood, childhood and alternative music.”

Carner’s son features throughout, including on the artwork, which was coloured in after he found a pile of photos left within reach.

In a string of firsts, Carner sings, produces and leads a band of collaborators he says came together almost by accident. Recent singles ‘About Time’ and ‘All I Need / In My Mind’ have already drawn praise for their warmth and stylistic stretch, with The Observer noting “indie rock bewitched by introspetive soul”.

Following his upcoming Glastonbury appearance, Carner will embark on a major world tour. UK dates include a four-night sold-out run at London’s O2 Academy Brixton and multiple shows across Glasgow, Manchester, Birmingham and beyond.

Now a decade into his career, Loyle Carner has evolved from diaristic wordsmith into a genre-spanning artist, director, and advocate. Hopefully! suggests a new chapter – one that trades confrontation for clarity, and finds light in places he one left in shadow.
