Man/Woman/Chainsaw announce debut album ‘Cannonball’ and share new single ‘Nosedive’

Produced by the teams behind Geordie Greep and Fat White Family, recorded at RAK Studios and nearly six years in the making: Man/Woman/Chainsaw's debut album arrives on 7th August and it sounds like it was worth every second.

Man/Woman/Chainsaw have announced their debut album ‘Cannonball’, due 7th August on Fiction Records, alongside new single ‘Nosedive’.

The London six-piece formed at 16 and spent their early years writing songs in a converted vicarage. Their trajectory since has been steep: 2025 brought two sold-out UK tours, sell-outs at London’s Scala, live sessions for KEXP and BBC 6 Music’s Steve Lamacq, and a debut SXSW appearance. The Guardian called them “a young British art-punk six-piece who revel in taut chaos and wry lyrics.” Lamacq was more direct: “I won’t lie, I fucking love this band.”

‘Nosedive’ is the clearest indication yet of where ‘Cannonball’ is headed. Nearly six minutes long and produced by Seth Evans and Margo Broom, who between them have worked with Geordie Greep, Black Midi, Fat White Family and Big Joanie, it sits as comfortably alongside LCD Soundsystem as it does in the art-punk scene the band emerged from.

Lead vocalist Emmie-Mae has described the song as being about “longing for both comfort and freedom simultaneously in a relationship through the metaphor of being an injured bird needing shelter”, adding that turning it into a danceable track shifts the tone “as though you find a way to pick yourself up and fly away.”

The 11-track album was recorded at RAK Studios and aims for something grander than the band’s early work: clean, theatrical, emotionally direct. Drummer Lola Cherry has described the intent simply: “We were talking about having a whole record of bangers, having everything be really in your face.” Man/Woman/Chainsaw are Billy Ward (vocals, guitars), Emmie-Mae Avery (vocals, keys/synths), Vera Leppanen (vocals, bass), Clio Harwood (violin), Lola Cherry (drums) and Billy Doyle (guitars).
