Marie Dahlstrom announces third album MARIE and shares new single ‘1 Journey Away’

Marie Dahlstrom has announced her third album MARIE, due 18th September via her own JFH Records imprint, alongside new single ‘1 Journey Away’.

The Roskilde-born, London-based singer has spent six years building a catalogue that bridges neo-soul, Nordic jazz and left-field R&B: her 2020 debut Like Sand introduced a voice of considerable range, while 2023’s A Good Life expanded the sonic palette further, drawing on production from her partner Dan Diggas alongside guest appearances from Kofi Stone, James Vickery and Jay Prince. Previous collaborators across her career have included Tom Misch and Alfa Mist.

MARIE turns the focus inward in both title and subject. ‘1 Journey Away’, the album’s first single, was co-produced by Corey Fonville of Richmond, Virginia jazz collective Butcher Brown, with Cuban percussionist Eliel Lazo and Los Angeles musician Elijah Fox also contributing. The track deals with the particular longing of having loved ones spread across different countries: “It’s about family life, having loved ones spread across different countries and carrying that constant feeling of wanting to be closer to them,” Dahlstrom has said. “It reflects a longing for a slower, simpler way of living, where connection and togetherness matter more than everything else happening around you.”

Light and nimble in its arrangement, the track allows both Fonville’s rhythmic sensitivity and Lazo’s Cuban percussion to give the song a physical warmth that complements Dahlstrom’s voice rather than surrounding it.

MARIE is out 18th September via JFH Records.
