Mary In The Junkyard’s final single is about a fisherman in a former life with a mouse in his pocket.

Four singles in and Role Model Hermit still has the power to surprise. 'Mouse' is Mary In The Junkyard's most quietly extraordinary preview yet, and the album it closes lands on 3rd July.

Mary In The Junkyard have shared ‘Mouse’, the closing track of their debut album Role Model Hermit, due 3rd July via AMF Records.

The song inspired the album’s artwork and is, in Clari Freeman-Taylor’s own words, the product of an Iceland trip, a fixation on the ocean and the memory of a former life. “I went to Iceland and became obsessed with the ocean,” she has said. “I remembered I was a fisherman in a former life with a mouse in my pocket, lost in a storm. It is about me reconnecting with the mouse when they have taken on a human form in this life.” That description is not a metaphor. It is a Mary In The Junkyard lyric, which is precisely why it works.

‘Mouse’ follows ‘New Muscles’, ‘Candelabra’ and ‘Crash Landing’ as the fourth and final preview of Role Model Hermit, a debut produced by Oli Bayston and Ben Baptie that spans eleven tracks. The Guardian described ‘New Muscles’ as shivering “with traces of Wild Beasts’ clattering menace.” The band have spent the past weeks road-testing the record, joining Dove Ellis for packed co-headline shows in New York and Los Angeles.

The album arrives just ahead of a nearly sold-out UK in-store tour beginning on 2nd July, followed by an extensive UK and European headline run in September and October and a full US tour in November.
