The British-Japanese artist’s first full-length LP will drop 16th May via Transgressive, and was written and recorded alongside Grammy-winning engineer Ricky Damian, who’s worked with the likes of Ezra Collective, Jorja Smith and Sampha.
Earcandy is so far living up to its name, with a handful of sweet singles released so far, including ‘Slow Down’ – co-written and produced with DJ Boring – and the brief but bright ‘Good Kisses’, featuring Metronomy.
The latest slice of the project comes via new, multilingual synth-house track, ‘Certified’ – have a listen via its video below.
Describing the new track, Miso Extra has said succinctly: “‘Certified’ centers around the attempt to be seductive and the stubborn determination that comes with it.”
And speaking about the record more broadly, she added: “It’s about growing through your mistakes and not being afraid to get things wrong.
“There are some deep messages in there but it’s surrounded by sweet earcandy – that spoonful of sugar that helps the medicine go down.”
“[Ricky Damian] was my Mr Miyagi, I learned so much from him during the whole process. Plus, working in Studio 13 was so inspiring since I’m such a Gorillaz fan and you can channel their energy there, as well as feel the influence of other people who have used the space from Erykah Badu to Paul McCartney.”
Earcandy will feature a number of collaborations: as well as the DJ Boring and Metronomy collab tracks, there will also be features from New York indie-pop collective MICHELLE, A.K. Paul and RnB songstress Tyson.
Miso worked closely with Chinese-Indonesian filmmaker and photographer Claryn Chong to craft the album’s visual identity – check out the album artwork below.
