Since last week, the UK’s chancellor’s got the boot, the temperature seems to have plummeted, and whynow’s cherished music man, Teddy Coward, has gone gallivanting around France, which leaves me humbled unworthy to take you through some of the best new music out now.

Peace and Love – Red Hot Chilli Peppers

You wait six years for one album, and then you get two in six months. The Red Hot Chilli Peppers are back again with Return of the Dream Canteen, a sprawling 17-song album with the ever-present energy that defies their youth. I was lucky to see them at the London Stadium earlier this year. You can read that review here.

Clown – Ruth Lyon

This is a perfect song. It’s from Newcastle-based singer Ruth Lyon, with ‘Clown’ released ahead of her new EP Direct Debit To Vogue. It’s got a great video as well.

Simple Pleasures – Ocean Alley

Ocean Alley

Aussie rock band Ocean Alley’s Low Altitude Living album is out today, with ‘Simple Pleasures’ an early standout.

I can attest that they are lovely blokes as well. I went for a beer with them six months ago, ahead of their show at the Camden Assembly – you find that chat here

Bumpy Johnson – Central Cee

Central Cee 23

The rising star isn’t rising anymore. He’s just pretty massive. No More Leaks is a four-track EP from the London MC, out today. The second track, ‘Bumpy Johnson’, gets the nod.

Shabby – poolblod

‘Shabby’ is the new single from Toronto’s poolblod, featuring Shamir. It comes ahead of her debut album, mole, slated for release in January next year – suddenly not all that far away.

Stormzy – Hide & Seek

Another week, another track, another video, with Stormzy subdued here on ‘Hide & Seek’.

Green Eyes – The Lightning Seeds

I saw Ian Broudie on BBC Sport this week, predicting the footy scores for the weekend. That usually means the person’s releasing an album, I thought, and sure enough, The Lightning Seeds are back with See You In The Stars. It ain’t what it used to be, admittedly, but there’s a touch of ‘Pure’ to ‘Green Eyes’.

Love is Luh – Mach-Hommy and Tha God Fahim

Mach-Hommy and Tha God Fahim have teamed back up for Duck Czn: Tiger Style, with ‘Love is Luh’ a standout. A review by Dan Cohen will tell you more about it (he gave it three stars in case you don’t want to click the link).
