New Zealand’s rising alt-star Ratbag has released her latest single, ‘Juliet & Juliet’. Following January’s ‘look what you’re doing to me’, the track is part of her forthcoming project and continues her streak of unsettling yet irresistible songwriting.

Known for weaving shoegaze, grunge, and pop influences into something uniquely her own, Ratbag’s latest release plays with contrasts. ‘Juliet & Juliet’ is a buoyant love song with a gruesome edge, balancing sweetness with something more sinister. “Juliet, I like your nose ring,” she sings. “Would you care to rip it out and / Put it on my fourth finger now?”

“‘Juliet & Juliet’ is about that feeling you get when you’re with your partner in crime,” she explains. “Romantic or not, they’re that one person who just gets you and can make any night better by just existing. Think of it as a tribute to all the Juliets out there.”

Earlier this month, ratbag debuted the track live while supporting Magdalena Bay on the Imaginal Mystery Tour across Australia. The performance marked another step in her rapid ascent, following her debut headline shows in New Zealand and Australia last year. She’s now set to play more dates worldwide, including a stop at Iceland Airwaves in Reykjavík this November.

With endorsements from NME, Rolling Stone, and Dazed, Ratbag’s reputation continues to grow. Expect more news from her camp in the coming weeks.
