Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds have unveiled their latest single, ‘Long Dark Night,’ a moving spiritual ode from their forthcoming album Wild God, set for release on 30th August. The band recorded the album in two iconic locations: Miraval in Provence and Soundtree in London.
Reflecting on the creation of Wild God, Nick Cave remarked, “Wild God…there’s no fucking around with this record. When it hits, it hits. It lifts you. It moves you. I love that about it.”
The new track, ‘Long Dark Night,’ resonates with echoes of the country music that shaped Cave’s early listening habits. Fans might remember his classic track ‘The Mercy Seat,’ which was famously covered by Johnny Cash. The song also draws on the deeply spiritual and redemptive themes found in Dark Night of the Soul by the Spanish poet St. John of the Cross.

Nick Cave elaborated, “‘Long Dark Night’ is inspired by one of the greatest and most powerful poems of conversion ever written. Ultimately, though, it’s a beautiful country tune. It feels like a sweet companion to the song, ‘Wild God’.”

Fans can now enjoy ‘Long Dark Night’ and anticipate a powerful experience when Wild God drops at the end of August. This release marks a significant moment for the band as they gear up for their first headline tour since 2017. The tour will cover 17 countries, kicking off its UK leg on 2nd November.
