Takeoff was shot and killed on 1 November, outside a bowling alley in Houston, Texas. The 28-year-old had formed hip-hop trio along with his uncle Quavo and his first cousin once removed Offset, the latter of whom has now spoken publicly about his grief following the shooting. Writing on his Instagram, Offset described the “unbearable” “pain” he’s currently grappling with, adding, “My heart is shattered and I have so many things to say, but I can’t find the words.” “I’ve been going to sleep and waking up hoping that all of this is a dream, but it’s reality, and reality feels like a nightmare. Every time you would see me, you didn’t give me a dap you gave me a hug.
“I wish I could hug you one last time. Laugh one last time. Smoke one last time. Perform one last time.” “I love you forever, 4L and after,” he finished his message with. Offset’s words follow a massive funeral, billed as a Celebration of Takeoff’s life, which was held in Atlanta’s 20,000-capacity State Farm Arena over the weekend. Phones weren’t allowed inside the venue, but rapper Da Brat did give a sense of the venue from outside via one video to her Instagram. Other big names in rap have of course paid tribute to the ‘Bad and Boujee’ rapper, not least expressing the shock at the manner in which he was killed. Gucci Mane has even gone as far as to release a track titled ‘Letter to Takeoff’, in which he asks “How the fuck we gon’ lose Takeoff? Damn, he didn’t deserve it”.View this post on Instagram
