Olivia Rodrigo has become the youngest recipient of the BRIT Billion Award which recognises artists who’ve surpassed one billion career UK streams.
At just 20 years old, the pop star has achieved the landmark with just one full-length album to her name so far: 2021’s Grammy-winning SOUR. Rodrigo’s accolade in fact arrives just a matter of weeks out from the release of her inevitably anticipated sophomore album, GUTS, which is slated for release on 8 September. The singer was in London to pick up her BRIT Billion Award, as part of promotion for recent GUTS single ‘Bad Idea Right?’.

The accolade was first launched back in May and included the likes of ABBA, AJ Tracey, Whitney Houston, Ellie Goulding and Lewis Capaldi among its first recipients. The award is verified using Official Charts data and marked the first significant change to the certifications programme since April 2018, when the BPI Awards were re-branded to the BRIT Certified Awards. It was also established to mark the 50th anniversary of the awards certification, with BPI first establishing the programme in 1973. Olivia Rodrigo has now already made history with this newly-created prize.
