Pixies are back at it, dropping their latest single, ‘Oyster Beds’, just in time for their performance at London’s All Points East tonight. This punk-fueled track is part of their upcoming album The Night the Zombies Came, set to release on 25th October.
Black Francis, always up for something new, says the song’s inspired by his return to painting, which he got into during their time at Rockfield Studios. “It’s basically a list of everything I was painting over the last couple of years,” he quips.
Following the buzz from their previous single, ‘Chicken’, which made waves in The Times and NME, ‘Oyster Beds’ keeps up the band’s creative momentum. With influences ranging from druidism to apocalyptic shopping malls, Pixies are as quirky and eclectic as ever.
Their world tour continues with a sold-out show at Glasgow Academy, among others. They’ll also be hitting New Zealand and Australia later this year, including some huge stadium gigs with Pearl Jam.
The Night the Zombies Came will be available in all your favourite formats, including some special vinyl editions that are sure to fly off the shelves. It’s shaping up to be a banner year for Pixies, so stay tuned.
