If you’re struggling to find the funds or stock to buy a Playstation 5, not to worry! Sony plans on keeping Playstation 4 games around for a couple more years.

In a briefing yesterday, Sony told investors that PlayStation won’t be releasing any first-party games on Playstation 4 in 2025. This effectively means Sony and Playstation are getting ready to ditch the older console and are focusing solely on their newer console.

Sony and Playstation are struggling to meet the demand for their newest console, due to the chip shortage. The Playstation 5 has been in high demand, with online shops running out of stock in minutes. While Playstation has made some games exclusive to PS5, such as the award-winning Returnal, it’s still keen on releasing big titles for the older console.

While Sony is projecting they will be able to sell a lot more of the new console, most gamers are still stuck with a PS4. So the decision to release titles like Horizon Forbidden West and Elden Ring on PS4 as well as PS5 is not just kind and considerate for gamers who can’t get their hands on a PS5, but financially smart.

There’s plenty of money to be made in PS4 games; in Japan, Elden Ring sold over double the amount in PS4 version than PS5 in its launch week. 65% of the Playstation Store Sales are coming from PS4. One of the most anticipated games of the year, God of War Ragnarok, is still expected to launch for PS4 as well as PS5 later this year.

In the briefing, Sony also announced they’d be focusing a lot more on PC titles. Sony is clearly moving away from catering simply to consoles, broadening its horizons and becoming more available for gamers across platforms. Returnal might be heading over to PC and Steam, as a mysterious listing under the name of ‘Oregon’ was spotted and some outlets have reported that this could indeed be a codename for Returnal, but there is no official confirmation on this.
