After eight years, Primal Scream are back with ‘Deep Dark Waters’.

From the upcoming album Come Ahead.

Bobby Gillespie

Primal Scream are back after an eight-year break, and they’ve returned with a bang. Their new single, ‘Deep Dark Waters,’ is a bass-heavy, flamenco-tinged track that doesn’t just ask for your attention – it demands it. Bobby Gillespie’s lyrics are a sharp reminder that we’re navigating some pretty rough seas, with a message that there’s still time to change course.

Gillespie, reflecting on the track, said, “Deep Dark Waters is influenced by the writings of Franco ‘Bifo’ Berardi. It contains a warning from history. ‘Those who do not learn from the past are condemned to repeat it.’” No pressure, right?

The music video, directed by long-time collaborator Douglas Hart, is a technicolour trip featuring Gillespie and bassist Simone Marie Butler. It’s just the latest in a string of collaborations between Hart and the band, dating back to the early ‘90s.

‘Deep Dark Waters’ is the lead single from Come Ahead, Primal Scream’s first album since 2016. If this track is anything to go by, the album – dropping on 8th November – will be worth the wait. Gillespie has poured some of his most personal songwriting into these 11 tracks, so expect a rollercoaster of emotions and some serious reflection on the state of the world.

If you’ve missed them as much as we have, you can pre-order Come Ahead now. And trust us, this one’s going to be special.
