New Zealand’s Ratbag has announced details of her new EP kissing under an (almost) full moon, and it’s out on 9th May.
The project follows a run of single releases that have built momentum around the mysterious rising alt artist. Split across two sides, kissing under an (almost) full moon explores what Ratbag describes as “the love of womanhood and the horrors too,” moving from the romantic tones of earlier tracks like ‘look what you’re doing to me’ and ‘juliet & juliet’ into darker territory with the new songs ‘lose her’ and ‘king of kingston’.
“In the last year I’ve started to really fell the growing pains of becoming a woman – of moulding into myself and my sexuality – and falling in love,” Ratbag explains. “It’s liberating, but at the same time I’m feeling the world around me becoming more and more terrifying. This EP is about both of those things.”
Recorded across two contrasting “discs”, the EP moves between softness and confrontation, exploring shame, danger, and resilience with imaginative, textured production. The artwork was painted by Ratbag herself, further marrying her visual and musical worlds. Ratbag’s star has been rising globally, with recent praise from Dazed, Rolling Stone, NME, and The Line of Best Fit. She recently completed support dates with Magdalena Bay and will play a string of shows across 2025, including a slot at Iceland Airwaves in Reykjavik this November.

Fans who pre-save the EP on Spotify are entered into a draw to win a limited-edition Ratbag zine curated and designed by the artist.
