Really Good Time release ‘The Love Song’ ahead of debut album as bassist takes the mic for the first time

Really Good Time have shared ‘The Love Song’, the latest preview of their debut album Affirmations, due 7th August.

The Dublin trio have spent the past few years establishing themselves as one of the most vital live acts on either side of the Irish Sea, playing SXSW, Other Voices and The Great Escape alongside support slots with Franz Ferdinand, The Murder Capital and Gurriers. Steve Lamacq has compared them to a blend of Queens of the Stone Age and The Walkmen, and the band have drawn consistent radio support from BBC 6 Music, Radio X and RTÉ 2FM.

‘The Love Song’ marks a first: bassist Jacque le Coque takes the lead vocal, stepping forward to deliver an ode to communion that details multiple forms of love alongside a message to face the world’s chaos with the confidence that love provides. “The world is falling apart in increasingly confusing and horrible ways,” the band have said, “but your love fills me with the confidence to face it.” The message is delivered without irony: “Tell your friends you love them.”

The track arrives three weeks before Affirmations, a debut album the band describe as a collection of songs about the temptation to disengage from the world and the refusal to give in to it. “That feeling must be spat out and rejected,” they have said of the nihilism that the album addresses. The record brings together previous singles ‘Shit One’, ‘Bob Dylan Was On Pawn Stars in 2010’ and ‘Do It’ alongside new material, including ‘The Love Song’.
