Rex Orange County has returned with new single ‘Take A Drive’, produced by Pharrell Williams.
The track marks Rex’s first release since last year’s collaboration with Daniel Caesar, ‘Rearrange My World / There’s a Field (That’s Only Yours)’, which has since passed 60 million streams. This time, he joins forces with one of pop’s most recognisable producers for a warm, groove-led cut built on slick basslines, soft keys and a vocal delivery that feels both candid and buoyant.
‘Take A Drive’ has already been named BBC Radio 1’s Hottest Record and was written and recorded at Louis Vuitton’s atelier in Paris. Its tone is reflective but playful, an invitation to slow down and enjoy the moment.
The release extends what has already been a busy year for Rex, who played a sold-out six-night residency at the London Palladium earlier this spring. He also appeared on the remix of Ravyn Lenae’s ‘Love Me Not’ and contributed his track ‘Love & Obsession’ to Alex Russell’s film Lurker, which premiered at Sundance. His ongoing collaborations with Daniel Caesar and Mustafa The Poet recently took the trio to Cairo, where they staged a performance and discussion event alongside Belgian-Egyptian artist Tamino.
‘Take A Drive’ now begins the next chapter for Rex Orange County – a nostalgic but forward-looking song from an artist whose output continues to grow in scope and reach.
