Big Special

Rising indie stars Big Special have just unveiled their latest single, ‘Trees’, wrapping up an impressive year of music releases. This new track follows their string of successful 2023 singles like ‘Shithouse’ and ‘This Here Ain’t Water’, which have all earned spots on the BBC 6 Music playlist.

‘Trees’ stands out with its slow-burn start that explodes into an intense finale, complete with a resounding chant of “No peace, No peace”. Vocalist Joe Hicklin describes ‘Trees’ as a song about life’s routines and dependencies, highlighting the human need for balance between responsibility and self-gratification. He emphasizes, “It’s about how life catches up with you… But I think it’s about not feeling guilty about what makes us human; life’s hard, there’s no peace, and we all need a slice of cake here and there.”

2023 wasn’t just about studio success for Big Special; they’ve also made their mark live. From festival performances to charity gigs and supporting Sleaford Mods, they’ve been busy. Their own headline tour this December is nearly sold out, adding to the excitement of their upcoming 2024 dates. They’re set to headline DIY’s Now & Next UK tour in April 2024 and have just announced their biggest London headline show yet at The Jazz Cafe in May 2024.

‘Trees’ is available now on streaming platforms, and the video can be viewed on YouTube (at the bottom of this article). Don’t miss the chance to catch Big Special live on their UK headline tour starting next week, with a few tickets still up for grabs.
