Robin Guthrie, the creative force behind Cocteau Twins, has unveiled his latest EP, Atlas. This marks Guthrie’s first new release since his 2021 album Pearldiving ended a nine-year hiatus. That album seemed to rekindle his creative fire, leading to a series of EPs – Mockingbird Love, Riviera, and Springtime – each dropping in quick succession.

Atlas emerges from a period of travel, something that always sparks Guthrie’s imagination. The four-track EP showcases his signature painterly touch, with each piece weaving an immersive and evocative narrative.

Reflecting on the inspiration behind Atlas, Guthrie shared, “I got travelling again after the pandemic and that’s always a source of inspiration for me. I absorb a lot and get most creative when I have travelled. As for the title Atlas, I found an old radio and was struck with how many of the places on the dial no longer existed. I was attracted to the romantic notion that these places were very far away, not only in distance but now in time as well. The world seems a smaller and more familiar place nowadays.”

Guthrie’s reflection on the EP’s title resonates deeply in today’s world. The image of an old radio dial with now-forgotten places evokes a sense of nostalgia and reminds us how much our world has changed.

For fans of the Cocteau Twins, there’s more good news. The band’s Four Calendar Cafe has received a full vinyl re-issue, and it’s back on shelves now, ready to rekindle old memories and create new ones for a fresh audience.
