West Coast songwriter Sean Solomon has announced a new solo album titled The World Is Not Good Enough, set for release on 17th April.
The Los Angeles-based musician first emerged as a member of indie outfit Moaning, but has increasingly turned his focus toward solo material in recent years. The new record continues that shift, presenting a more personal set of songs shaped by Solomon’s distinctive blend of wry humour and introspective songwriting.
Raised in California’s San Fernando Valley, Solomon grew up immersed in pop culture, from repeated viewings of The Simpsons to the graphic novels of Daniel Clowes, the creator of Ghost World. Those influences continue to shape the tone of his work, where melancholy reflections are often paired with a playful sense of observation.
The album was produced by Jarvis Taveniere, known for his work with Whitney, Purple Mountains, and Waxahatchee. Taveniere also contributes bass and percussion on several tracks.
Among the collaborators is Shannon Lay, Solomon’s former roommate and fellow Sub Pop artist, who appears on backing vocals and guitar.
New single ‘Remember’ arrives alongside the announcement. The song blends gentle nostalgia with a bittersweet reflection on family and memory, nodding toward the emotional directness of artists such as Elliott Smith and the raw vulnerability of Nirvana.
Solomon explains that the track grew from a personal project involving old family footage.
“My parents asked me to digitise our old family videos, and I ended up cutting them up into a music video and the visuals I perform live with,” he says. “I’ve noticed at shows people really connect with this song and it reminds them of their own families.”
The song reflects on the complicated nature of family relationships, particularly the challenge of seeing parents as complex individuals rather than simply authority figures.
“I think it’s hard for most people to have empathy for their parents because they’re supposed to take care of us and know what’s right or wrong. But everyone has both sides to them. This song is about trying to remember the good.”
The World Is Not Good Enough is released on 17th April.
