Sean Solomon has shared new single ‘Finish Line’ ahead of his debut album The World Is Not Good Enough, out this Friday.
The release marks a key moment in Solomon’s solo trajectory, arriving after Moaning entered an indefinite hiatus in 2023. ‘Finish Line’ offers a final preview of the album, positioning it as the culmination of this next phase in his songwriting.
The track pairs bright, melodic instrumentation with more emotionally weighted strings, creating a contrast that mirrors its lyrical focus on setbacks and persistence. Drawing on his own experience working in animation, Solomon frames the song around repeated near-misses and disrupted ambitions.
“Every time I’ve almost had my dream job, there’s some corporate merger or layoffs and suddenly everyone I work with is fired and my dreams are squashed,” he explains.
The single arrives alongside a self-drawn and animated video, extending those themes into a visual world that balances introspection with a deliberately childlike aesthetic.
Across the album, Solomon works with collaborators including Shannon Lay on vocals and guitar, while producer Jarvis Taveniere contributes bass and percussion. Their partnership shapes much of the record’s tone, with Taveniere describing the process as “brotherly”, rooted in a shared emotional sensibility.
‘Finish Line’ ultimately pushes beyond the personal, widening its scope. “The song evolved into being about something more universal. How I expected more from the world,” Solomon adds.
The release follows 2025 single ‘Car Crash’, and precedes a full album playthrough and Q&A with Jonah Ray at Brain Dead Studios in Los Angeles. Solomon will then join Unknown Mortal Orchestra on a US West Coast tour from 1st May.
