Sesame Girl channel platonic love on new single ‘Superstar’.

A warm, guitar-led track signals a more refined direction following their debut EP.

The Australian indie group lean into warmth and nostalgia on the track, pairing airy guitars with Heather Duncan’s soft, expressive vocal. At its core, ‘Superstar’ centres on authenticity, friendship and appreciation, framing platonic love with a sense of sincerity rather than sentimentality.

“‘Superstar’ is a sincere ode to friendship,” Duncan explains. “It’s about celebrating their wins, while also being there for them no matter what they’re going through.”

The release marks the band’s second collaboration with Grammy-winning producer Simon Lam, known for his work with Charli XCX and The Temper Trap.

Working with Lam appears to have pushed Sesame Girl into a more refined direction following their 2022 EP Lucky Charm. The band describe the process as a turning point, noting: “This is the music we’ve wanted to make this whole time. Working with Simon has brought out the best and most authentic version of what we’ve been doing.”

The single arrives with a video that mirrors its themes, focusing on presence, connection, and the fleeting nature of shared moments.
