Sleaford Mods have announced their new album The Demise of Planet X, due 16th January 2026.

The Nottingham duo of Jason Williamson and Andrew Fearn have also released their first single, ‘The Good Life’, featuring Gwendoline Christie and Big Special, alongside a video directed by Ben Wheatley.

The record includes guest appearances from Aldous Harding, Liam Bailey, Snowy, and Sue Tompkins, marking one of Sleaford Mods’ most collaborative releases to date. Williamson describes it as a record shaped by “immense uncertainty” and “mass trauma,” written in response to what he calls “a country that once felt like a lifeless corpse, now split open by war, genocide and the lingering psychological fallout of Covid.”

“I don’t want to pat myself on the back while the rest of the world falls to shit, but we’re really happy with The Demise of Planet X,” he said. “The music and ideas are really fresh and it’s in your face, but it pays to put your glasses on to look at the ingredients.”

‘The Good Life’ sets the tone, a self-critical track about Williamson’s habit of publicly clashing with other artists. “It’s about slagging bands off and the joy and misery that causes me,” he explained. “My inner voices are brought to life by Gwendoline and Big Special, debating that internal tension between me enjoying a good life or submitting to the mayhem.”

Wheatley’s video brings those inner voices to life, marking his second time working with the band after their 2021 single ‘Mork n Mindy’. “It’s brilliant to be working with Andrew and Jason again,” Wheatley said. “I’m a long-time fan so it’s always exciting to get the call to come out to play.”

Across its 13 tracks, The Demise of Planet X draws together the duo’s humour, anger and political bite, broadening their range without losing the edge that’s defined their work since Austerity Dogs. Guests appear throughout: Aldous Harding on ‘Elitest G.O.A.T.’, Liam Bailey on ‘Flood the Zone’, Snowy on ‘Kill List’, and Sue Tompkins on ‘No Touch’.

Several special vinyl editions will accompany the release, including a glow-in-the-dark version, a Rough Trade exclusive, and a Nottingham-only picture disc.

Following the album’s release, Sleaford Mods will tour the UK and Ireland in February and March, including dates at London’s Brixton Academy, Nottingham’s Rock City, and Glasgow’s Barrowland Ballroom.
